2005
OLB DeMarcus Ware, Troy (first round, 11th overall)
A-plus - He has a chance to be the best defensive player in franchise history.
DE Marcus Spears, LSU (first round, 20th overall)
C-plus - He's solid against the run, but isn't the disruptive force you'd expect of a first-rounder.
LB Kevin Burnett, Tennessee (second round, 42nd overall)
C - Never became a starter, but performed well in the sub packages and on special teams before leaving for San Diego.
RB Marion Barber, Minnesota (fourth round, 109th overall)
A-plus - A back who excels in the red zone and at the end of games is a great find in the fourth round.
DE Chris Canty, Virginia (fourth round, 132nd overall)
A - Gave the Cowboys four solid seasons as a starter.
SS Justin Beriault, Ball State (sixth round, 208th overall)
Inc. - Had a great training camp and preseason, but a knee injury ended his career before it started.
OT Rob Pettitti, Pittsburgh (sixth round, 209th overall)
C-minus - Started at right tackle as a rookie and was cut before the next season.
DT Jay Ratliff, Auburn (seventh round, 224th overall)
A-plus - Pro Bowler is the best value pick made during Bill Parcells' tenure at Valley Ranch.
Grade-point average: 3.33
NOTE ON GPA: I agreed with a comment on a previous post that the Cowboys shouldn't be penalized for sixth- and seventh-rounders who don't make the cut, so those rounds only count toward the GPA if they boost it. I adjusted the GPAs on all the previous entries.
